Tabitha Froeb, Barnard '27

Tabitha is a junior at Barnard College majoring in organismal and physiological biology. She grew up around dogs and horses and hopes to pursue a career as an equine veterinarian.  Tabitha is eager to explore how dogs think, learn, make decisions, and interpret human emotional cues. She’s excited to apply her passion for animals to hands-on research in the lab!

Ellen Sun, Columbia '27

Ellen is a junior at Columbia College studying Biology and Linguistics. After spending unhealthy amounts of time bird-watching and dog-watching in Riverside Park, she’s developed a deep appreciation for how animals experience the world so differently from humans. She especially loves dogs and is broadly interested in their behavior, sensory perception, communication, and decision-making. Ellen looks forward to meeting the dogs of New York and learning more about them!

Eliana Birman, Barnard '28

Eliana is a sophomore majoring in cognitive science and minoring in music at Barnard. Eliana has always loved animals of all kinds (but especially dogs) and finally brought a dog into her life during COVID. She is fascinated with discerning how different beings understand and perceive the world. Eliana can't wait to combine her interests and contribute to the growing research in this field by working in the Dog Cognition lab this year!

Momo Yang, Barnard '27

Momo is a junior at Barnard College, majoring in Psychology. Her dog Maomao, in the picture, is her best friend and the reason she became so interested in dog cognition! She loves exploring how dogs’ personalities shape their special bond with humans and why they are known as “human's best friend.”  Momo is excited to share her love of dogs and her passion for Psychology while working in the lab!

Eleanora Deemer, Barnard '27

Nora is a junior at Barnard College, majoring in Psychology and hoping to apply to vet school after graduating. Growing up around dogs, she learned how important it is to understand a dog’s experience to be able to care for them, both at home and in the vet clinic. Nora is really excited to get to meet the dogs of New York and try to see the world through their eyes!

Sylvie Bergquist, Barnard '26

Sylvie is a senior at Barnard College majoring in Psychology and minoring in History. Having grown up around dogs, she is excited for the opportunity to investigate their behavior through a more scientific lens— especially the role of olfaction in shaping dogs’ experience of the world. Sylvie also works at Barnard’s Toddler Center and the Stroller Lab and she looks forward to drawing connections between dog cognition and early childhood development (such as “theory of mind” and processes of social learning and imitation).

Penelope Figueroa, Barnard '27
Penelope is a Junior at Barnard majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in French. Having two dogs at home, she has always been fascinated by animal cognition. Penelope is especially interested in dogs' integration of visual and olfactory information in the brain; she hopes to learn how their experiences differ from humans' to enrich our relationships with our pets. She is so excited to be returning for her second year at the lab!

Phoebe Hailey, Barnard '27
Phoebe is a junior at Barnard College majoring in Psychology. As a result of growing up with dogs and walking them in her free time, she has always been fascinated by their distinct personalities and how they perceive the world around them. She is also interested in how dogs understand and potentially mimic their owners' behavior. Phoebe is excited to explore both her love of dogs and passion for Psychology in the lab!
